Unite for Literacy
Unite for Literacy, a non-traditional publishing company, provides free digital picture books for students from different cultures, backgrounds and languages. Each book has narration options in various languages. Some books have the option of American Sign Language; when selected, these books have video clips of a person signing the current page of the book. Students with low vision enjoy the digital images, large font text and non-visually cluttered pages. Students can choose to read the text themselves or press the audio button to listen to the narration.
Epic! School is a digital collection of more than 40,000 books from a number of renowned publishers. Students ages 12 and under can read, listen, watch and experience texts in a number of ways.
Set up a free educator account with Epic. Students are able to use it for free at home with class code on weekdays during school hours (approximately 6 a.m.-3 p.m.).
Sora Produced by OneDrive, Sora is a digital reading platform that empowers students to discover and enjoy ebooks and audiobooks from their school library. Students can customize their Sora reading with dyslexic and other fonts, larger text, and different background shades for easy on the eyes reading. Users can also define words, highlight, and make notes from within the book itself.
PebbleGo Databases (Animals & Biographies) an informational research database specifically targeting K-2 elementary aged students with its content. These research databases contain hundreds of articles. Content includes text articles, audio, images, and video. The articles are chunked into easy-to-read short passages. Users can hover over a topic title to hear it read aloud and definitions can be accessed from within articles. Using the speaker icon will play an audio recording of the article text. There are photos and images included to visually support the text, along with video snippets to illustrate key concepts.
